Micro-Internships with MDY: Evaluation Report

Micro-Internships with Museum Development Yorkshire

Over the last year, we’ve successfully run three micro-contracting opportunities for three sector entrants who had little experience in the museums sector.  We are also in the process of evaluating a micro-contracting opportunity for someone a little more experience in the sector, with results on this to follow shortly.

The micro-internships, made possible through the support of Museum Development Yorkshire allowed three individuals a minimum of 35 hours of placement time, focusing on a discreet project roughly based on each sites collections. We have now produced our evaluation report for this project and want to share the outcomes of the project with the world!

Key outcomes of the micro-internship opportunities are:

  • Staff have become more accepting of the role interns can play within an organisation
  • Interns have developed vital understanding of the potential of working within the museums sector
  • Interns have developed a variety of skills, including soft skills
