On Wednesday 8th June, we celebrated the achievements of our local heritage sector at the Nottinghamshire Heritage Conference and Awards. The event was hosted by the Nottinghamshire Heritage Forum with Nottingham Trent University and Culture Syndicates CIC.

The Nottinghamshire Heritage Awards recognised and rewarded excellence and innovation in museums, historic houses and heritage organisations throughout Nottinghamshire. The event took place at Nottingham Trent University’s stunning new Pavilion Building at the Clifton Campus on Wednesday 8th June. More than 100 guests attended the Awards to celebrate the many achievements of Nottinghamshire heritage sites.
There 26 entries from 15 heritage organisations, both large and small which demonstrated outstanding achievements and the exceptional work taking place across Nottinghamshire. The submissions were all of a high quality; the shortlisting panel were particularly impressed with the variety of entries, many of which developed relationships with communities and helped to build partnerships with other local businesses.
The shortlisting process narrowed down the entries, but there were still some tough decisions to be made during the judging event. Each shortlisted entry was invited to give a presentation about their submission to the judges. The awards were judged by John Holmes of BBC Nottingham, Dr Andrew Gritt of Nottingham Trent University and Erin Huckle of Experience Nottinghamshire.
Professor Lloyd Pettiford, Associate Dean, College of Arts and Science, School of Arts & Humanities at Nottingham Trent University welcomed guests to the ceremony and did an excellent job of ensuring the evening ran smoothly whilst entertaining the guests. The judges also took part in the awards ceremony, sharing their thoughts on all the projects they had looked at, both Erin and Andrew presented the awards.

 

There were six award categories, each of the award winners receiving a plaque.  The Winners were…

Inspiration Award for Best Special Project
Winner – Galleries of Justice Museum for ‘Get Up, Stand Up’ 

Working with Children and Young People Award
Winner – Framework Knitters Museum for ‘The Rushcliffe School Partnership’ 

Care and Development of Collections Award
Winner – The Harley Gallery and Foundation for ‘The Portland Collection Gallery’ 

Best Innovative Exhibition
Winner – The Boots Archive for ‘Inspiring Beauty’ 

Museum of the Year 2016
Winner – Mansfield Museum
The awards were part of the Nottinghamshire Heritage Conference and Awards 2016 and were organised by The Nottinghamshire Heritage Forum, Nottingham Trent University and Culture Syndicates CIC.

Introducing: Yanqiu Autumn Dai, Strategic Advisor to the Culture Syndicates Board

  Autumn is a highly qualified and experienced heritage researcher, practitioner, and consultant based in China. Educated at the University of California, she graduated with a BA in Art History and International Relations Global Business (IRGB) before completing her MSc in Visual Material and Museum Anthropology at the University of Oxford before embarking on a successful career in heritage and the arts around the world. She has worked in Los Angeles, Singapore, Hong Kong as well as the U.K. for art market consultancies and diverse museums and galleries around the world. Harry Wheatcroft - The Year of the Roses Project

 Culture Syndicates are signposting you to a wonderful project The Year of the Roses. A partnership between Art Culture Tourism UK and OKAY! schools' magazine Italy this international project is dedicated to roses heritage in all their aspects, shapes, and colours.  ‘During these difficult pandemic times, we have created this project to uplift people around  the world - it is a way to release treasured memories of our roses, bringing family, friends  and places closer together. This wellbeing exhibition will share the roses' meaning and  creativity to a local as well as international audience’.
